Wakr: Photo Alarm Clock — Privacy Policy

Wakr ("the app", "we") is a smart alarm clock that requires a real photo or a short mental-math challenge to dismiss. This Privacy Policy explains what information the app handles, where it goes, and what choices you have.

The short version: your photos, alarms and wake-up history never leave your phone. To understand how the app is used and improve it, Wakr sends anonymous usage analytics — no name, no email, no advertising identifier — and you can turn that off at any time in Settings.

Data that stays on your device

None of the following ever leaves your iPhone:

• Photos taken inside the app. When you complete a photo mission, the camera takes a photo and Wakr's verification runs locally using Apple's Vision framework. Photos are not uploaded, not stored after verification, and not retained. What the classifier sees in the photo (objects, scene, colours) is never sent anywhere.
• Alarm settings. Your alarm times, missions, sound choices and weekday schedule are saved in Apple's SwiftData on your iPhone.
• Wake-up history. When you complete a mission, Wakr records the date, mission and whether you passed — used to build your streak grid and insights. This history stays in local storage on your device.
• App preferences. Theme, language, onboarding state.

Anonymous usage analytics

Wakr uses PostHog (posthog.com), a product-analytics service, to understand which parts of the app work and where people get stuck. Analytics data is processed and stored by PostHog on servers in the United States.

What is sent:

• A random identifier. On first launch Wakr generates a random ID and keeps it in your device's Keychain, so the same install is recognised across launches and reinstalls. It is not derived from your device, your Apple ID or any advertising identifier (IDFA), and it is not linked to your name or email — Wakr has no accounts.
• In-app actions. For example: onboarding steps viewed, alarms created, edited, deleted or toggled, an alarm ringing, a mission started, failed, abandoned or completed, the paywall shown or closed, settings changed.
• Your onboarding answers. Age range, whether you consider yourself a morning person, typical sleep duration, snooze habit, goal, preferred mission and wake-up hour. These are stored as broad categories (for example "25–34"), not free text.
• Mission outcomes. Whether a mission passed, the number of attempts, the time from alarm to completion and, for photo missions, a coarse confidence level (low / medium / high). Never the photo or anything recognised in it.
• Purchase events. The plan you chose (monthly or annual), its price and currency, and whether the purchase completed, failed or was cancelled.
• Technical details. App version, iOS version, device type and screen size, and app open / close events.
• Approximate location. Like any internet service, PostHog receives your device's IP address when events are sent and may use it to estimate an approximate location (country and city). We do not use it to identify you.

We use this data only to measure and improve Wakr. We do not sell it, share it with advertisers, use it for advertising, or combine it with data from other companies to track you across apps and websites.

Turning it off: open Wakr → Settings and switch off "Share anonymous analytics". Wakr stops sending analytics immediately. You can switch it back on at any time.

Permissions Wakr requests

• Camera — required to verify your morning mission photo. The photo is processed on-device and not retained.
• Alarms (AlarmKit) — required to schedule alarms that break through Silent Mode and Focus, the way the iPhone's built-in Clock app does.
• Notifications — used to surface the alarm itself; we send no marketing pushes.
• Photos (write-only) — optional; only used if you choose to save a successful mission photo to your library.

You can review or revoke any of these in iOS Settings → Wakr.

Subscriptions

Wakr offers a paid subscription. Payment is handled by Apple via the App Store. We never see your card number, billing address or other personal payment data. As described above, the plan, price and currency of a purchase are recorded in our anonymous analytics, linked only to the random identifier.

Children

Wakr is rated 4+ and does not ask for names, contacts, precise location or any other directly identifying details. The only personal information requested is an optional age range during onboarding, used as an anonymous analytics category. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children.

Data retention & deletion

• On your device: uninstalling Wakr removes the alarms, history and preferences stored on your iPhone. To reset without uninstalling: open the app → Settings → "Reset all data". This also replaces your random analytics identifier with a new one, so future analytics can no longer be connected to past activity.
• Analytics: events are kept in PostHog only as long as they are useful for improving the app. Because they are not linked to your name, email or any account, we have no way to look up which events belong to you. Using "Reset all data" (above) or switching analytics off ensures nothing further is connected to your past activity.

Changes to this policy

If we change how Wakr handles information, we will update this page and bump the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will also be reflected in the app's App Store privacy details.
