Md Editor — Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy (“Policy”) explains the information collection, use, and sharing practices of Md Editor (“we,” “us,” and “our”).

Unless otherwise stated, this Policy describes and governs our practices with respect to the Md Editor browser extension and the pages we publish for it on appsforlife.net (together, the “Services”). Md Editor is made and published by Apps for life, an independent studio; “we” in this Policy means the people behind Md Editor.

Before you use the Services, please review this Policy. By using any part of the Services, you understand that your information will be collected, used, and disclosed as outlined here. If you do not agree to this Policy, please do not use our Services.

Our Principles

We designed this Policy to be consistent with the following principles:

• Privacy policies should be human readable and easy to find.
• Data collection, storage, and processing should be simplified as much as possible to enhance security, ensure consistency, and make the practices easy for users to understand.
• Data practices should meet the reasonable expectations of users.

In practice this means we collect as close to nothing as a working extension and website allow.

Information We Collect

We collect very little. Md Editor has no account to create, nothing to buy, and no newsletter to join.

Information You Provide Directly to Us

The only way to give us information directly is to write to us. If you email us for support or feedback, we receive your email address and whatever you choose to put in your message, and we keep it as long as needed to answer you and to keep a record of the request. We do not ask for your name, phone number, mailing address, payment details, or location, because we have no use for them.

Information that Is Automatically Collected

Usage information. We use Vercel Web Analytics to count page views and see which products people look at. It is cookieless and aggregate: we see counts, not people, and no profile is built about you.

Server logs. The site is hosted by Vercel, which processes standard request data — including your IP address, user agent, and the URL requested — in order to deliver the page and to protect the service from abuse. We do not use these logs to identify or track visitors.

Cookies and Other Tracking Technologies

We set no cookies. The site stores two small values in your browser’s local storage: afl_consent, which records your storage choice so we do not ask on every visit, and afl_lang, which remembers your interface language and is stored only if you allow functional storage. Both stay on your device and are never sent to us.

We use no tracking pixels, web beacons, clear GIFs, device fingerprinting, advertising tags, or cross-site trackers. For details, see our Cookie Policy.

Information from Third Parties

We do not obtain information about you from data brokers, social media platforms, marketing or market research firms, or other public sources.

The Md Editor Extension

Md Editor does its work on your device. It reads the Markdown page you opened in order to render it, and the files or folders you pick yourself through your browser’s own file picker; it writes back only when you press Save. Your drafts, theme, and pane widths are kept in your browser’s local storage so a reload does not lose your work.

It does not send your documents, file names, folder paths, browsing history, or settings to us or to anyone else, and we operate no server that receives them. It declares no host permissions in its manifest and runs only on pages whose address ends in .md or .markdown, plus files you open yourself; it loads no remote code and contains no analytics or telemetry.

How We Use Your Information

We may use the limited information described above to:

• Respond to your inquiries and provide support.
• Provide, maintain, and secure the Services, including fixing faults and preventing abuse.
• Understand, in aggregate, how the Services are used, so we can improve them.
• Comply with the law and protect the rights, property, and safety of Md Editor, our users, and the public.

We do not build profiles of you, we do not use your information for advertising, and we do not sell or rent it to anyone.

When We Disclose Your Information

Service providers. Our hosting and analytics provider, Vercel, processes request data on our behalf in order to serve the site. It is the only third party involved in running this website.

Legal compliance and protection. We may disclose information if required to do so by law, or where reasonably necessary to comply with legal process, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, property, or personal safety of Md Editor, our users, and the public.

Business transfers. If our products or assets are ever sold or transferred, information we hold may be part of that transfer. We would post notice of such a change here.

We do not share your information with affiliated companies, advertisers, or promotional partners, and we do not sell or share it for cross-context behavioural advertising.

Legal Basis for Processing Personal Data

Where the laws of your jurisdiction require us to state a legal ground for handling information that can identify you, ours are:

• Legitimate interests — running and securing the website, answering support requests, and understanding aggregate usage, in ways that are not overridden by your rights and freedoms.
• Legal compliance — where we must use or retain information to meet a legal obligation.
• Consent — for functional storage of your language preference, which you give through the storage banner and may withdraw at any time.

Online Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics and no other analytics service. It sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. Vercel derives a short-lived anonymous identifier from the incoming request purely to tell one visit from another; it is not stored in a way that can be traced back to you or used to follow you across other websites. We see only aggregated counts. See Vercel’s Web Analytics privacy documentation. We do not use Google Analytics.

Your Choices and Data Subject Rights

Storage choices. You can accept or reject functional storage when you first visit, and change or withdraw that choice at any time via Cookie settings in the website footer, or by clearing this site’s storage in your browser.

Marketing email. We do not send marketing email, so there is nothing to unsubscribe from.

Accounts. There are no user accounts, so there is no account data to review or delete.

EU, UK, and other data subject rights. Individuals in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions have rights (subject to applicable exceptions) to confirm whether we hold information about them, to access it, and to have it corrected or deleted; to object to or restrict our processing; and to withdraw consent. In our case this will usually concern an email exchange, since that is the only personal information we hold. To exercise these rights, email us at zausaevdmitrii@gmail.com. You also have the right to complain to your supervisory authority, though we would encourage you to contact us first so we can resolve the matter directly.

International Transfers

Our hosting provider operates servers in several countries, so processing may take place outside your country of residence, including in countries whose privacy laws differ from your own. Where information is transferred out of the EEA, we rely on our provider’s safeguards, including standard contractual clauses, to protect it.

Security Measures

The site is static and holds no user database, which removes most of what could be stolen. It is served only over HTTPS. Support email is held in a standard mail account protected by a strong password and two-factor authentication. No internet transmission can be completely secure, and we cannot guarantee that these measures will prevent every unauthorised attempt to access information.

Children

The Services are not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information (as defined by the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act) from children under 13, or personal data (as defined by the EU GDPR) from children under 16. If we become aware that we have, we will delete it as soon as practicable.

Data Retention

Support email is kept as long as needed to handle the request and to keep a record of it. Aggregate analytics contain no personal data and are retained by our provider under its own schedule. Server logs are short-lived and managed by our hosting provider. Information may persist for additional time in routine backups.

Third-Party Links and Services

Our pages link to third-party services such as the Chrome Web Store. If you follow those links, your information is handled under those services’ own privacy policies, not this one. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices, and we encourage you to read the privacy statement of every site you visit.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

We will continue to evaluate this Policy as we update and expand the Services, and may make changes accordingly. We will post any changes on this page and revise the date above. If we make material changes, we will provide notice as required by law.
